ACRO Travel Award Winners

This year we were excited to provide funding for 4 trainees traveling to the ACRO 2025 Summit in Las Vegas through The Accelerator The Cure Travel Award.

Simul came up with a great idea for the application. Trainees were asked to submit a 3-5 minute video explaining a research question they would like to study in radiation oncology. This was hypothetical; just think of a cool study and talk about a potential design. No expectations to run the study.

Check out our call for applications on Simul’s blog for full details.

We had a lot of really good applications. Our favorites followed the instructions on video length and content, and came with innovative ideas that we loved. We ultimately selected 4 winners plus an alternate, as one winner was not able to travel to the conference.

Here are the winners and their ideas:

  • Rimsha Afzal* - Study to improve the experience and outcomes from radiotherapy for patients with intellectual disabilities

  • Mohammad Alismairat* - Prospective Study of SBRT for medically inoperable breast cancer

  • Fereshteh Talebi - Phase 1 study of PET-guided spatially fractionated SBRT for large liver metastases

  • Roman Travis - Randomized study of LDRT versus sham control using a pedometer as the primary outcome measure

  • Rituraj Upadhyay - Radiopharmaceutical treatment for recurrence of meningioma

Thank you to all the applicants for your engagement and congratulations to all the winners! Can’t wait to see you all at ACRO!

*As Mohammad was ultimately not able to attend the conference, we selected Rishma as an alternate.
